This is
one of my favorite stories about Roberta Batshaw, nee Balk. She is my
grandfather Maurice Jacobs 1st cousin. She was married 4 times. Husband #3 was
Bernie Liss with whom she had a child Steven and Husband #4 was Arthur Batshaw.
I do not know the names of Husband #1 or Husband #2.
In her
younger days, she tells us she was quite a swinger. The story she tells is about
being in Pearl Harbor Hawaii in the days leading up to December 7, 1941.
Cousin Bobbie (that is what we called her) was friendly with the Military
officers stationed in Pearl Harbor. She said that her friends told her to leave
Hawaii, which see did.
We had no reason to doubt the story until I found the below Manifest from the Port of Los Angeles. It shows she let Honolulu Hawaii but it was on September 27.1940 and arrived in the Port of Los Angeles California October 4, 1940, about 1 year before we were lead to believe.
It goes to
show that there is truth to the family stories and legends that we have heard
all our lives.
